VERMIGLIO (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 1 SEPTEMBER 2016 –Italian vice champion Stefano Ravarelli’s seventh place in jr 20” is the best result of the national team in the semi-finals of 2016 UCI Trials World Championships in Val di Sole. This means that no Italian athlete will take part in the finals to be held on Friday afternoon. Even worse went for Francesco Policante (21st) and Italian champion Andrea Pilo (24th) in the 20” Elite race. The rider from Lazise just has the cold comfort he did better than his teammate, included in quartet on Tuesday at the last moment by Team manager Angelo Rocchetti.
The best Elite 20” was Abel Mustielles, protagonist on Tuesday of the incredible mistake that gave the gold to the French team. And, unbelievably France did a negative performance in the qualifying stages: they did not make it among the best six seeded for the final. The other two Spanish Benito Ros and Ion Areito, Swiss Lucien Leiser (who stole the fourth place to Italy), German Dominik Oswald and Dutch Rick Koekoek will be racing.
In the women’s 20” qualifying event, the protagonists were Nina Reichenbach, Australia’s Janine Jungfels and Belgian Perrine Devahive. Battling out for the title are also Slovak Tatiana Janickova, Swiss Debi Studer and Spanish Irene Caminos.
Yesterday the race was held on the pitch built by the O.C along the Vermigliana river that flows across San Leonardo plain. A choice appreciated by the large public that watched the races. The particular woodland area was highly appreciated by the athletes and technicians. The choice is an investment for the future. The aim of the president Aldo Bordati is to create a Trials park, one of the few in Italy, for Italian athletes but also other teams. He wants to create the premises for hosting training sessions as it happens in other venues in Trentino. Today 26”semifinals will take place.
